Being Over Busyness — When Grace Can’t Be Gained

ree

“It is not by works, so that no one can boast.” – Ephesians 2:9 (NIV)

“I can’t work my way to God’s glory.

It’s not about doing—it’s about being.”

That sentence hit me like a wave—unexpected but undeniable.

I was watching a sermon by Isi Igenegba when the entire screen froze. Completely. My remote wouldn’t respond. The power button refused to function. Nothing. But the still image on the screen? It was Isi—mid-word, mid-unction—holding the mic, while her headshot sat poised in the corner. The moment was visually suspended, like Heaven hit the pause button.

And then… my spirit caught up.

I typed what I was sensing deep within:

“Her fruit holds weight in the realm.”

And as soon as I acknowledged that, the screen resumed—but in speed play. It shot forward, then returned to live TV, as if to say:

“You got it. Let’s move.”

That wasn’t a technical malfunction.

That was spiritual confirmation.

What the Spirit Showed Me:

I cannot work my way to God’s glory.

I cannot “act right” enough to be chosen.

I cannot hustle my way into Heaven’s spotlight.

It is not earned—it is ordained.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
— Ephesians 2:8–9 (NIV)

“And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is—free and undeserved.”
— Romans 11:6 (NLT)

There’s a dangerous narrative in the Kingdom right now that busyness is the badge of spiritual success.

But God is breaking that idol.

Because grace doesn’t run on performance.

And glory doesn’t respond to perfection.

It responds to alignment.

Let’s Pause and Ask:

  • Have I confused my doing for my being?

  • Have I assumed that if I just “do enough”—post enough, serve enough, hustle enough—I’ll somehow be more chosen?

Because that’s not Kingdom. That’s culture.

And in this moment, God is recalibrating the remnant.

Those of us who have always felt like we had to “do something great” to qualify…

are learning to just be who He called us to be.

“For He delivered us and called us with a holy calling, not because of our works, but because of His own purpose and grace, which was granted to us in Christ Jesus before time began.”
— 2 Timothy 1:9 (AMP)

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit…”
— John 15:16 (ESV)

Final Reminder:

You don’t need to perfect the calling.

You just need to surrender to the One who called you.

Because being called is ordained, not gained.

He’s not impressed by your hustle.

He’s waiting on your yes.

And that yes…

Starts with rest.
